MILLINGTON COMMUNITY SHOWCASE
May 6, 2014 from 3-8 p.m. at the Millington High School
there was a ‘Whole Lotta Shaken Goin On’ at the Four Occasions
Hall when Don Grant took the stage as Jerry Lee Lewis. Singing many
of the hits made popular by ‘The Killer’, he got several of the
audience up and dancing. The man in black, Johnny Cash, sang of
trains, Folsom Prison and songs of love with Burning Ring of Fire and
I Walk the Line. Johnny Cash entertained the crowd with a great cross
section of his work. The Millington Chamber of Commerce arranged for
the popular Classic Rock N’ Roll and Country Tribute for the second
year. The crowd applauded all the entertainers as well as the winners of gifts donated by several local merchants. The Rotary manned the
kitchen and produced some yummy snack food, that brought rave reviews
from concert goers. Last,
but certainly not least Matt King took the stage as Elvis and evoked
memories of concerts of the late 50’s and 60’s. The gals started
for the stage when the first song had barely ended waiting their turn
to receive a scarf worn by the King. Elvis sang many of his most well
known songs, but many agreed that when he sang ‘How Great Thou Art’
and the Trilogy they felt it was a true “Elvis Concert” many
stated that he was even better this year and several of the audience had driven from the bottom of the state to hear him sing.
Millington Chamber of Commerce especially wants to thank the Mayville
State Bank staff for being such a big supporter of the Millington
Community and getting Tribute tickets to all those that came to the
bank asking for the tickets. Mel and Pam Conway, Chamber members
from the Museum asked for businesses that were able to donate gifts
to give out: Podunk Auto Parts formerly Car Quest, Billie Loper at
Enduring Reflections, Tim Rollin at Millington Barbershop, The
Millington Historical Society at the Millington Museum, Bev Bassett
owner of the Country Shoppes, Parker’s Orchard, Mayville State Bank
and Down Home Diner from Otisville. Tribute Chairman, Barry Mays of
TDS, did a great job setting up this event for the Millington
Community and he wishes to thank all the Chamber members for their
help selling tickets, set up or take down, manning the door or
whatever part you played in making this a successful event.
